TRAFALGAR 1805 VOLUME II OF THE SERIES: "NAPOLEONIC BATTLES"
Villeneuve and Gravina departed from the Port of Cadiz on the following day, setting their course to the Strait of Gibraltar. With the barometers announcing an imminent storm at dawn on the 21st of October at approximately 20 miles to the Southeast of the Trafalgar Cape, with a mild West-Northeasterly wind and westbound waves, the battle is inevitable. For over 12 hours, the best and most powerful Naval Fleets of the age measured their forces in a decisive combat which changed the course of history. Spaniards, British, and French sailors displayed heroic examples of valour, courage, and sense of duty. It was an intense and confusing engagement where Lord Nelson's brilliance shined in his final performance and the blood of countless Spaniards, with the dreaded awareness that their destiny was sure death, and comprises one of the most memorable pages of our history. The high seas would not witness a confrontation of such epic proportions until Jutland; history would not experience another naval battle of such decisive importance until the major aero-naval combats in the Pacific.
